Instruction and discussion of strategies and techniques for assembling and strengthening your mini-chapbook with a focus on poems individually as well as collectively to discover overarching concerns, themes and obsessions. Fever writing exercise sessions to generate new poems for your chapbook or collection.

  • Group limited to 6 poets  

  • Two weekends: a happy hour meet & greet and lecture/discussion on Sunday January 3 followed by an intensive workshop weekend on Saturday/Sunday January 9 to 10, 2021 (U.S. Eastern time)

  • By application only — deadline to apply is November 15

Anyone accepted to the workshop may be considered for private mentorship with Blanco to work on a chapbook or book-length manuscript.

Fee: US$ 895

Application Requirements

Submit your application as a single WORD or PDF document which must include the following:

  1. A statement explaining your intent if accepted to participate in this workshop 

  2. A brief description of your background in writing and publication history 

  3. Three (3) sample poems 

  4. Contact information which must include your name, email, phone, and the time zone where you will be located between January 3 to 11

Please email your application to aalauthors@gmail.com by no later than November 15, 2020.  There is no application fee.  We encourage early applications as acceptance is competitive and places are limited for this private, small-group workshop opportunity.

Workshop submittals and schedule

Accepted participants will be notified by no later than November 30After which, your mini-chapbook manuscript (for the workshop) must be submitted by no later than December 4, along with your registration fee to guarantee your place.  Mini-chapbook manuscript should be a maximum of ten (10) pages with no more than one (1) poem or part of a poem on each page.  Please use a standard font like Times New Roman in 12-point type.  Email your manuscript as one single WORD document (no PDF’s) to aalauthors@gmail.com 

A final, more detailed schedule for the workshop will be provided once all participants are confirmed along with their respective time zones.  However, please free your calendar for this approximate schedule:

Sunday, Jan 3

Happy hour meet & greet: 1 hour

Lecture/discussion “Crafting a Poetry Manuscript”: 1 to 1.5 hours 

Saturday, Jan 9

Fever writing prompt #1/generative with sharing:  3 hours

Break: 1.5 hours

Mini chapbook workshop session #1: 4 to 4.5 hours

Sunday Jan 10

Fever writing prompt #2/generative with sharing:  3 hours

Break: 1.5 hours

Mini chapbook workshop session #2: 4 to 4.5 hours
