This past summer in May, we offered an exclusive, small group weekend workshop in Historical Fiction with novelist Rachel Kadish, author of the award-winning historical novel The Weight of Ink. Last year, we hosted a second, generative workshop in September led by our co-founder Robin Hemley in Autofiction. Robin is the author the critically acclaimed autofiction Oblivion, An After Autobiography, which Kirkus Reviews calls “the best kind of shaggy dog story, delightful in every particular.” Others we’ve held include an intensive retreat in creative nonfiction led by essayist/editor Brenda Miller, co-author of the widely-used textbook in creative nonfiction Tell It Slant (now in its 3rd edition); writing identity for grownups, a generative creative nonfiction writing workshop on writing about race, gender, sexuality, nationality, religion and class led by Natasha Sajé, author of the award-winning memoir Terroir; a small-group environmental braided writing workshop with Nicole Walker, essayist/editor and co-president of the international NonfictioNOW writers’ conference; an advanced poetry workshop in the mini chapbook led by Richard Blanco, President Obama’s inaugural poet for his second term.
